ClassKasa on your phone: no app store, add it to your home screen
How to put ClassKasa on your Android or iPhone home screen in four taps, what the installed app does, and how we keep it working on phone-sized screens.

You will open ClassKasa on a phone. In the school corridor, in the queue at the pharmacy, at 23:40 on the sofa. So we build it for the phone first and stretch it for a laptop afterwards, and we do not ask you to go to an app store for it. You can put it on your home screen and it opens like an app.
This is how, for Android and for iPhone.
Android (Chrome)
- Open ClassKasa in Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Tap Install app. On some phones the entry is called Add to Home screen.
- Confirm. The ClassKasa icon appears on your home screen.
iPhone (Safari)
- Open ClassKasa in Safari.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up.
- Scroll the sheet if you need to, and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The icon appears on your home screen.
From now on, open ClassKasa from that icon.
What the installed app does
We checked this against what the app actually declares, not against what we would like it to say:
- It opens full screen, without the browser bar (the app declares itself as a standalone app).
- It starts in the app, and uses the ClassKasa icon and colours (192 and 512 pixel icons, plus a maskable one for Android).
- On Android, ClassKasa can also receive a link you share from another app: share a collection link to ClassKasa and it opens the collection. iPhone does not support this.
- It is the same ClassKasa you use in the browser: same account, same classes, same data.
We do not claim more than that. There is no app store, no separate download and no separate account.
How we keep it working on a phone
"Mobile-friendly" is easy to say. Here is what actually runs when we change the code:
- A mobile audit. Our build runs Lighthouse in a phone emulation (375 by 812 pixels, throttled network and processor) over the main public pages and the main signed-in screens. Each page has a minimum accessibility, best-practices and SEO score, and the build fails if a page falls below it.
- A sideways-scroll check. A test opens the main public pages on a 360 pixel wide screen and fails the build if any of them scrolls sideways.
Neither check promises that every screen looks right on every phone. They are two guards that run on every change that touches the code, so a regression on a small screen has to get past them.
Questions
Do I need to install it? No. ClassKasa works in the browser. Installing only puts an icon on your home screen and removes the browser bar.
Is my bank password involved? Not by installing. If a treasurer connects a class bank account, the bank password is entered on the bank's own page and never in ClassKasa. The details, with sources, are on the security page.
Where do I start? Open ClassKasa and add it to your home screen with the steps above.
